I Know Why . . .

My sister, Joan, has done it again! Another amazing 'chicken' quilt. It's called, "I Know Why"! Do you know why? Well I had a very big DUH moment, cause I didn't get it!

 "I Know Why"
as in .......

Why did the chicken cross the road?
To rescue the baby chicks tangled up in the binding!!!

I've also linked up to the Needle & Thread Network.

Enjoy!

New Pendant Shapes

I just received my latest order of new pendant trays for my Fibre Art Pendants. These are rather interesting. Of course, I had to reorder several others as my pendants have been very popular with tourists and locals. Thank you for your support. Photos of the finished product using the new shapes, will be posted soon. I have to get busy!!

Apples Galore

It's apple picking time!

My sister-in-law gave me a whole bunch of apples yesterday. She picked about 17 dozen from the one tree. The apples on the other tree aren't quite ready for picking yet. They are still a bit small and not quite ripe.

So to celebrate apples, you will find a few links below with free apple pattern!
Enjoy!!!

Under the Sea

My latest art piece, Under the Sea, is a combination of free motion stitching and hand embroidery. Valdani Threads were used for the fly stitch and French knots. The background is Bali Batik. The piece is custom framed 5" x 7" with a black metal frame. The mat is a bright white but I couldn't quite get it right in the photo! An unframed version is also included below.

The hardest thing, is coming up with titles for my pieces.

Chickadees and Berries

Have you ever purchased a pre-printed panel to quilt and then wondered what to do with it? How to quilt it? Well, I was checking out some blogs on one of the Happy Friday Posts from yesterday and came across Karen's Quilts, Crows and Cardinals - Redbird Quilt Company.

Karen has been working on a Chickadees and Berries Panel by Jackie Robinson from Benartex. This is a beautiful panel (as you can see below) and Karen has shared her tutorial on making the wall hanging, table topper and coasters. The step by step tutorial is on the Bear Creek Quilting Company Blog. It is quite detailed and well worth a look.

I have no affiliation with these companies. I thought the information might be of interest to you.

There's also a great giveaway which I entered! Someone has to win . . .

Enjoy!

Another Friday Finishes is called Link A Finish Friday or LAFF.  Interesting place too! I'm # 19!

New additions:
Fabric Frenzy Friday at Forth Worth Fabric Studio.
Creative Goodness Linky Party from Quilt Shop Gal
Can I get A Whoop Whoop from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Stained Glass . . .

We had summer weather here in St. John's today! It was just beautiful in my garden. I'm not looking forward to the cold weather in the not too distant future. However, my Fibre Lace Scarves will certainly ward off the cold wind this winter.

Here's another one completed! I particularly like the black side as it reminds me of stained glass. I think I will be creating another one similar to this one with more intense colours.
Enjoy . . .

More Fibre Art Pendants

What a gorgeous sunny day we had. I was working in the morning but just had to go outside after lunch. I finished a few more Fibre Art Pendants, stitched up some snowmen shimmers and got more scarves ready to photo. Here are the pendants, ready for the next market!

I'll post more scarves next time.

New Reversible Fibre Lace Scarve

I think the scarf I photographed today is one of my favorites. That's probably because I like the colour combinations on both sides. What do you think!

Crazy Quilting

Today is devoted to Crazy Quilting. Why? Well, the Eastern Edge Quilt Guild's program for part of this year is about Crazy Quilting. We were given a block pattern, which we can use or make up one of our own, and asked to make a block. Then for the next few months, one of our members (a good friend of mine) will be demonstrating a different stitch to use for the different seams in the block.

I found this interesting quilt on Cheryl's Teapots2Quilting. Scroll down through a bunch of lovely quilts from the 2013 International Quilt Festival, Chicago, to see it.

I have a list of blogs to check about crazy quilting but first a couple about the history of this quilting technique:

September 19th. and it was 25C and sunny in my back garden! YAH!!!! Of course I was outside and took a few photos too.  Here's the fruit in the backyard. Just love the colours, The cluster of Dog Berries would translate nicely into an embroidery piece. I must have a look at my threads . . .

I was going to keep the Halloween projects until October but figured the sooner the better if you want to make any of them. As my friends and family know, I'm not into Halloweenl! In any case, here's a few things for you to check:

Mittens & Stockings

I have a couple of photos of my latest needle felted ornaments. They aren't quite finished but I thought I'd share them. When finished, you will be able to put a candy cane or paper money inside. I have lots of trees finished and ready for the Christmas season but still have more fabric to make so that I can create more mittens and stockings!

See my Needle Felted Christmas Trees HERE.

What do you think?!!

Needle & Thread Network

It's Wednesday and I just signed up to The Needle & Thread Network. There you will find lots of Canadian quilters displaying what they are working on. Please drop by for a look.

Right Click to Save Image

Also, take a look at this tutorial, Mini Bookshelf, from Don't Call Me Betsy. This one caught my eye as a simple one to do as a gift. You could embroider the book titles or do it as shown in the tutorial. It would make a nice wall piece for a child's room or your sewing room. Think about it - lots of possibilities!

Enjoy!!!

I'm working on new needle felted ornaments! Photos coming soon.

Curry Chicken

I have another lovely quilt to show you. Not mine but one my sister did as a gift for a niece who just moved into her new house. This one is called "Curry Chicken"! Don't you just love the name. Joan used Kona cotton in white and curry. To pick up the gorgeous chicken colours, she bound it in blue and backed with teal and pumpkin.

I think this is another way to highlight a piece of unusual fabric and no points to match either!
Also check out a previous post of Joan's quilts. Modern Quilting!!

Canadian Quilt Shops

One of the Newfoundland quilters was looking for chalkboard fabric and posted a request for a supplier on Facebook. Luckily for her, she can get it in Gander, NL at C & M Crafts. However, someone else posted a Big List of Canadian Online Fabric, Pattern and Notions Stores from The Finished Garment, a sewing, quilting, stitching blog out of Montreal. This list was updated on September 5, 2015. For those of you who shop online, this is worth checking out. I haven.t done that yet but will soon.

On another note, it was also mentioned that by shopping online, quilters aren't supporting their local shops. Well, sometimes you might not be able to get just what you need locally. Also, there might not be a quilt shop within driving distance of many people.

I try to shop locally during the year but when travelling, whether it's in Canada or the United States, I seek out shops to visit.

The Big List of Online Canadian Fabric Shops

The Canadian Quilters' Association has a list of quilt shops that support them. Check them out HERE.

Generations Quilt Patterns has a list of 153 Ontario Quilt Shops and Fabric Stores

Cheryl's Quilting Links has a list of Canadian Quilt Shops

I know the above lists aren't comprehensive but it's a start. You can add these to your list.
Enjoy!

Remember: shop locally whenever you can.

Lots of Inspiration

There is still colour in my garden. In fact, today could have been any day in August with 25 C! Although I did notice the leaves on the red maple are starting to shrivel on the edges. I guess it's a sign that autumn will soon be here.

Quilters and stitchers are already into making Halloween and Christmas projects. Me, I just want to stay in summer. However, the Christmas Craft Fair preparations are keeping me busy.

These climbers are blooming in the holly tree.

I just love the greenery

Short and Sweet!

Today I have a couple of blogs for you to check:
While my sister was home this summer, I gave her several bags of fabric. Among the fat quarters, half lengths and scraps, she found the perfect pieces to make this pincushion. She said it is 6" high and 11" across. Not one that she would misplace easily!
