Sewing Projects for Mother's Day

I've found a few links with some projects to consider for Mother's Day. However, these projects aren't limited to just one occasion and you might want to make some of these for yourself!

Happy Mother's Day

I wish to extend a Happy Mom's Day to my 94 year old mother! She is in good health and can hear much better with her new hearing aid!

Wishing all the moms out there a great day.

Enjoy!!

These tulips are from 2013. This year's tulips are just now beginning to peek through the soil.

Happy Mother's Day

My four year old granddaughter in Chicago, insisted that Grandma have orange and red flowers for Mother's Day. The smaller roses have orange centers. The florist did a fantastic job!

I hope everyone has a great day.

Touch of Spring!!

A touch of Spring! Saturday and Sunday (May 2nd & 3rd) was the May Day Craft Weekend in down town St. John's. Several businesses were participating. I dropped into the annual May Day Craft Show at Rocket Bakery (in the upstairs room). Lots of nice hand crafted things were for sale. It was a good time to find a unique gift for Mother's Day.

As I walked down the street, I noticed these two buskers. They were enjoying the warmer weather as were the people who stopped by to watch them. I have no idea what they were promoting!! Anyway, it was entertaining and not something often seen on the streets of St. John's..

When I got home, I saw that some of my crocuses were in bloom. It was the first bit of sun we've seen in awhile so they were celebrating too.

As you can see, I take my camera with me all the time as you never know what you might find.

I did a little search for crocuses in quilted art and stitching:
Enjoy!!

This might be an idea for a small embroidery.

Happy Mother's Day

Happy Mom's Day!
What a lovely surprise I received! This beautiful Mother's Day floral bouquet is from my daughter and family in Chicago. I was told that my little granddaughter wanted orange flowers. As you can see, she got her wish! Thank you. It made my day.

Rock Recipes!

Sunday, May 11 is Mother's Day. In Canada and the United States, it is held on the second Sunday in May. For weeks now, the stores have been advertising all the 'stuff' one can purchase as gifts for this special day. However, I feel it's time to shop locally. Not in the large box stores or department stores, but at a local craft shop or one of the art studios in the area. I'm sure it will be much appreciated.

On another note, gifts of food are much appreciated by the older generation, especially if they come from your kitchen!  Have you visited Rock Recipes web site? Barry C. Parsons has spent years developing and adapting recipes in his own Newfoundland kitchen. I have tried some of them and they have been delicious. I like the fact that each recipe is accompanied by a photo. Another point, I don't have to flip through cook books to find something interesting to make. My tablet is right these on the counter with the recipe at my finger tips! Follow them on Pinterest.

For Easter, I made the Pear and Almond Cake with Crème Anglaise. I did not make the sauce because it contains dairy. However, it was delicious without it.
Enjoy!

Happy Mother's Day

I wish all mothers everywhere, a very Happy Mother's Day.

Last year this time, all my tulips were in bloom, as you can see from the photo below. This year, they are about a week behind. Hopefully the buds will open up this week.

May 12 is Mother's Day!

Mother's Day is less than a month away so you do have time to whip up some small gift for mom, grandmother, or a special female in your life. I took my mom to visit her friend this past week. This friend was showing me photos of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She related a short story: one of the great-grandchildren was calling her granny the same as the older children. However, one of them said that she was the great-grandmother. The child thought about it for awhile. He had a  truck at home that was called the great big truck. So now he calls her, not great-grandma, but Big Granny! I got a chuckle over that one. That was a tad off topic but I hope you got a chuckle too on this bright, sunny Monday morning.

Now for a few freebies / tutorials to check out for some simple gifts to make.

Mug Rugs and More!

Mug rugs, small coasters, place mats, mini quilts and wall hangings are all great projects to make to practise your piecing, applique, embroidery and quilting skills. For example, choose a block pattern you would like to try and incorporate it into a place mat or mug rug.

You will find lots of inspiration HERE, and HERE.
Also check out the April Mug Rug Hop that just finished at Sew We Quilt or click HERE to see them all in one place. However it's interesting to visit each participant's blog or web site as you never know what interesting things you will discover.

Happy Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day! I hope this is a good day for everyone. When I posted Mother's Day Ideas on April 10, I missed Mother's Day:100 + Homemade Gift Ideas & Projects by Tipnut. Lots of nifty stuff on that site. The one that caught my eye (among others) was for the Gardner Mom: Teacup Bird Feeder Project.
The projects listed on this site are great for any occasion, you just need to set some time aside and do one or two. You may even want to make something for yourself!

Talking about teacups, here's my 'Have a Cup', a felted teacup I did for an exhibit, Tea For Two, several years ago. It was my first attempt at wet felting. This piece was purchased at the show.
