Stained Glass and Quilting!

The Pitcher Plant is the official plant of Newfoundland Labrador. 'As a carnivorous plant, it gets its nourishment from insects that are trapped and drown in a pool of water at the base of its tubular leaves. These plants, with their wine and green flowers, are found on bogs and marshes around the province.' Other interesting facts about this plant HERE.

My friend, Judith, created these two beautiful quilted wall hangings of the Pitcher Plant. She enjoys working with fabrics: quilting, hand and machine embroidery, fabric dyeing . . . you name it, she has probably tried it. In fact, the light green fabric on the 1st photo, was dyed and rusted by Judy. The dark fabric is a commercial fabric by Carol Breyer Fallert. The fabric in the 2nd one is unknown.

Friday Finds . . .

This has been one heck of a windy day! Cold & sunny too. It's the kind of day to spend inside keeping cozy - which I did. Since I haven't been very productive today, I thought we'd look at some Friday Finds.

Touch of Spring!!

A touch of Spring! Saturday and Sunday (May 2nd & 3rd) was the May Day Craft Weekend in down town St. John's. Several businesses were participating. I dropped into the annual May Day Craft Show at Rocket Bakery (in the upstairs room). Lots of nice hand crafted things were for sale. It was a good time to find a unique gift for Mother's Day.

As I walked down the street, I noticed these two buskers. They were enjoying the warmer weather as were the people who stopped by to watch them. I have no idea what they were promoting!! Anyway, it was entertaining and not something often seen on the streets of St. John's..

When I got home, I saw that some of my crocuses were in bloom. It was the first bit of sun we've seen in awhile so they were celebrating too.

As you can see, I take my camera with me all the time as you never know what you might find.

Rock Recipes

Today was a snow day! I spent the morning working in my studio and in the afternoon I baked a Vanilla Cream Cheese Bundt Cake from my Rock Recipes Cook Book. The cake is delicious!
I've been a follower of the Rock Recipes blog (I think since it began). It is full of wonderful recipes and colour photos of all the delightful dishes. I highly recommend you pay a visit.

This is a photo of the Vanilla Cream Cheese Bundt from Rock Recipes. I didn't use the same icing called for in the recipe because I ran out of cream cheese. I mixed up some white icing instead.

Yesterday, I paid a visit to Jo-Ann's in Chicago and  purchased, The Complete Photo Guide to Art Quilting by Susan Stein. The colourful photos are wonderful.
