A Parting Gift!

Verna has created another unique temari ornament. She gave it to me as a going away gift. It presently sits on my new kitchen window ledge overlooking the back garden. Thanks, Verna, I love it. The stand is a perfect way to show it off.

Nova Scotia has an extensive recycling system. I know it's a good thing for the environment but do we need recycling bags with a fabric softener scent, or vanilla or mint?? As scent is an issue in my house, these are toxic. It was very difficult to find unscented ones. That's my rant for the day.

April 1st.

Nope! This is not an April Fool's joke! This is my back garden NOW - when is it going to end?

I would much rather see flowers peeping through the ground. However, I will console myself with these tiny flowers instead. The Fibre Art Pendants are part of an order for the Newfoundland Weavery, downtown St. John's.

Here's a look of work in progress. Note the styrofoam tray and the Pringles chips plastic cover.  The plastic is great for holding glue and fabric stiffener. When the glue dries, it's easy to peal off the plastic.

I also recycle plastic zip lock bags as they help keep things organized. Of course, they are washed out!
Enjoy!!

I hope Spring has found you wherever you are . . .

Shopping Locally for Christmas

Today I visited another Christmas Craft Fair here in St. John's. At these events, I always look for unique, well made items. I wasn't disappointed! A young sewer, Susan Riley, had a small booth displaying her one-of-a-kind creations made from recycled leather, clothing, fabrics and hardware. As a sewer myself, I was impressed with her work. Her sewing and designs were quite nice and I purchased two pieces for Christmas gifts.

Getting Organized

It's a very rainy here today. I just finished some book work and that got me thinking about projects to help with organization, whether it's in the office, around the house or sewing/studio. Recycle where you can. I used to collect Pringle chip tubes, clean them out, and they would hold interfacing and other sewing stuff that was rolled (short stuff). I've been known to save detergent boxes, cut them to hold magazines. That was before my husband got asthma and anything with a scent had to be discarded. However with the abundance of Dollar Stores, it's much easier to get plastic storage containers of all kinds. But if you still wish to make your own 'stuff', here's a few things to do:
Pincushion organizer
Purse Organizer
Denim organizer
Mail Organizer
Pattern Organizer
Organizer Folder: it's called a Cookie Sale Organizer
Car Organizer

Happy Valentine's Day

Happy Valentine's Day everyone! I'm not much into quilted or stitched heart stuff and as a result didn't post any free patterns from any of the sites I visit. However, I just came across something on twitter that is useful. It's an altered heart shaped candy box tutorial. Recycle that candy box that you received today and turn it into a pincushion or storage box for applique . . . This tutorial is a great way to practice free motion stitching too.
Alice Burke also has a bunch of tutorials using new & recycled materials.

Here's a pattern for a heart tote bag.

Now just think what I would find if I was really looking for this stuff!!
Happy quilting and stitching.
