Temari Ornaments by Verna

Meeting up with friends was an important part of my trip back home to St. John's, NL.
Our 'mini guild gals' met one evening while I was there.

My friend, Verna, brought along a few of her latest Temari Ball Ornaments to show me. She is already working on # 200! I've been showing off Verna's ornaments for a number of years. You can view them HERE.

St. John's Visit

I've been in St. John's since Tuesday morning. My flight was one of the few that got out of Halifax during the snow fall. Needless to say, the time flew by so quickly. Tomorrow afternoon, I head back home. 
This trip was personal and business related. It was great to meet up with friends. Thanks, M and B for your hospitality - much appreciated! It will be reciprocated when you visit our home in Nova Scotia.

I got everything done on my list. My last visit will be Some Good Market tomorrow morning.

Here are a few photos of Verna's newest Temari Ball Ornaments. These were taken this afternoon when a bunch of us got together for our regular monthly stitch meeting. They waited until I was home.

A Parting Gift!

Verna has created another unique temari ornament. She gave it to me as a going away gift. It presently sits on my new kitchen window ledge overlooking the back garden. Thanks, Verna, I love it. The stand is a perfect way to show it off.

Nova Scotia has an extensive recycling system. I know it's a good thing for the environment but do we need recycling bags with a fabric softener scent, or vanilla or mint?? As scent is an issue in my house, these are toxic. It was very difficult to find unscented ones. That's my rant for the day.

I don't know what's up with blogger but yesterday, Wednesday's post didn't show so I re-posted it to Thursday! Now I notice that there is no Thursday post when I did the post yesterday. I give up! Go figure . .

In any case, I've missed a day in April!

Verna has been busy with creating more Temari Ornaments. Did I mention that Lorraine, at Colour Compliments, has commissioned her to make a few more Temari? Verna uses Lorraine's hand dyed threads.

I believe I've shown this one before but whose counting. I wasn't sure when I took the photo this afternoon.

Making Memories!

I hope you had a great Sunday and spent it with family and friends. Lots of CHOCOLATE?

My goal with this blog is not to present personal 'stuff'. However, I'm going to ignore that for once. The important thing in life is making memories and I had a memorable moment tonight. And yes, I'm bragging just a little!

We skyped with our 6 year old granddaughter who is in kindergarten or Primary as they say in Nova Scotia. Usually, it's me reading stories to her. My Easter surprise: Gale read me the complete original version of Dr. Seuss's Green Eggs and Ham. I was flabbergasted to say the least. What was cute, after each page, she turned the book so I could see the picture. Making memories are so important don't you think?

To end the Easter Day, here's one of Verna's Easter Egg Temari Ornaments. Beautiful, as usual, Verna.

How to Sharpen Scissors  Has anyone tried this? I have a scissors sharpener by Fiskars (below) and never gave a thought to the methods mentioned in the blog.

Verna has been busy. She's added several new Temari Balls to her ever growing collection. Quite a number of Verna's ornaments will be on display at the EAC Seminar 2017, here in St. John's, NL.

St. John's Embroidery Guild is hosting Seminar 2017, Rock Needle Scissors, here in May. As part of the guild's participation, members have been asked to donate small hand embroidered items as part of the gifts to be passed out during seminar week (May 16 - 21).

My friend, Verna, has donated these two beautiful temari balls. If you are a frequent visitor to my blog, you will have seen a lot of them. In fact, there will be a display of them at Seminar! Fantastic work, Verna!

Late Birthday Surprise!

My friend, Verna, is visiting Nova Scotia. We managed to connect yesterday in Mahone Bay where we had lunch at Oh My Cod. Don't you just love the play on words! Verna makes beautiful Temari Balls. If you have been following my blog, you have seen lots of her work.

Well, she delivered a late birthday present to me. Can you guess what I received (grin)? I have been raving over the ones she has been making recently so I guess she figured I'd really like to have one - she was right. Thank you bunches, Verna! I love it. The black background has glittery threads with a variegated thread for the design.

Temari Ornaments

Verna has made a few more Temari Ornaments. I think this pattern is my favorite! What do you think??

The pink one is very similar to a previous one she did. However, the background here (can't really see it) is black with sparkles instead of gray. The little mat (Cathedral Windows) was also made by Verna. It belonged to one of our stitching friends who is no longer with us.
