Anniversary Quilt

Our 50th anniversary was in June. Joan, my sister, brought her gift to us this week. Of course, it's a queen size quilt. She knows I'm not much into hearts but she said these were not hearts (ya, right) but stylized J and L for our names. The white background has gold on it to represent the 50 years. The letters and numbers on the back are pieced. The 150 is for Canada's birthday.

It's a beautiful quilt, Joan. Much appreciated by both of us. Thanks!

Paper Piecing Canada's 150th!!!

Atlantic Fabrics was on my list of places to visit, which I did this morning. Gale and I had a grand time walking up and down the aisles checking everything out. She loves to feel soft things. Of course, she found the bolts of fleece and called me over to feel how soft they were.

While there, I purchased the pattern, Happy Birthday Canada 150 by Sugar Free Quilted Designs, Nova Scotia. I like the simplicity of this design and I have no idea when I'll make it. Thanks, Karen Chase, for this great design.

Linky Tuesday and More

It's still Tuesday here in Canada so I'm not late posting this one. Check out Free Motion by the River for Linky Tuesday as there are always new things to see.

So Sew Easy has some fabulous Best Free Tote Patterns. Free is nice.

Celebrate Canada's 150th by making your own banner. It's a free pattern!

Happy Stitching!!

Almost Ready . . .

I still have to package these Maple Leaf Pendants and they will be all ready for Canada Day on Saturday. When felting the background fabric, I added bits of navy and red roving to the red felt. It's a little difficult to see it in the photo but each pendant is unique. These will be in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia this weekend. My daughter, Jill, is participating in a one day pop-up shop in downtown Bridgewater, so a few of my things will be there too.

This & That

Have you been checking out the Canada 150 - It's in the Bag Tour, that I posted about yesterday? The participating quilters are doing a magnificent job on their bags.

I have a few more links for you to check:

Sugar Free Quilted Designs

Do you have a quilt or some project in mind for the 150th Anniversary of Canada? I have thought about it but haven't got my act together yet. Renovations and getting ready to move have taken over my life. I picked up a needle last evening and managed a few stitches on a small seascape but that's it.

I have seen a few projects on the internet but the one that I really like is by Nova Scotia Artist, Karen Chase of Sugar Free Quilted Designs. My friend, Linda, at Scrapmaster, tested the pattern that I'm writing about. It has a definite "modern" feel to the design and would look good as a small wall hanging, in a quilt or as a pillow (which is what Linda created below).

Maple Leaf

Maple Leaf Shimmers were stitched out this morning. This design is an older one but I haven't stitched it out in red in quite awhile. Since this is Canada's 150th Birthday, I thought it fitting to do it again.

Sticking with my Canadian theme, check out the Canadian Quilters' Association Pinterest page. Lots of interesting boards to explore. Don't forget the Instagram page and Blog.

This list is just the tip if the iceberg.

There are lots of interesting Canadian sites to visit. I did a very quick search.

Enjoy!

Celebrations

This year is Canada's 150th Birthday. Celebrations will be going on across the country for the entire year. Below, are a few quilt / stitching related projects, commemorating this event:

  • Sew Sisters Quilt Shop, Toronto, Ontario, is hosting a Block of the Month, The Canadian Sampler. It isn't free but some of you might be interested. It may also inspire you to design your own Canadian Quilt or wall hanging.
  • View the official logo HERE
If you know of other projects related to Canada's Birthday, I love to hear about them.

Enjoy!!
