Happy Canada Day / Memorial Day in Newfoundland

Happy Canada Day!

I would like to extend a Happy Canada Day to all my relatives and friends living outside this wonderful country of ours and to those of us who live here!
Enjoy your day wherever you are.

This little wall hanging is from the Spring / Summer 2011 edition of Fons & Porter's Quilting
My home province of Newfoundland, celebrates Canada Day, and the Battle of Beaumount Hamel.

On July 1st, the battle of Beaumont Hamel, was fought by the brave soldiers of the Royal Newfoundland Regiment. These men followed orders to go over the top at Beaumont Hamel, where the majority of them died or were injured. The Forget-me-not is a symbol of that regiment.

I took this photo of forget-me-nots on a walk in Bridgewater, NS, a couple of weeks ago.

Enjoy your day and stay safe in these troubling times.

Canada Day

I have really gotten out of the habit of posting since the move to Nova Scotia. My apologies! Things have been hectic and I really haven't produced a new body of work in awhile. However, new Shimmers are still been created. In fact, a new one, Canada Map outline, will make its debut on Canada Day in Bridgewater.

As my daughter has written in her Instagram post: We're coming for you Canada Day in Bridgewater! We will also have Canada Flags, Maple Leafs, Viking Ships, and other assorted Shimmers for sale on our maiden voyage of Nique Sea! Come visit our tent on July 1st, King Street Plaza.

Nique Sea is a new family business venture. We have a new website and online shop already to be launched where you will be able to purchase my Shimmer Ornaments and Fibre Art Pendants as well as prints of Jill's paintings.

Check out my Instagram page.

Here's a peek at some Shimmers drying outside a couple days ago. That's one thing I could not do in St. John's due to the constant wind.

Enjoy!!

Celebrating Canada . . .

Quite a number of years ago, my friend, Judy P., embroidered a hand towel on her Brother machine. She found this design, which was done in red, white & blue for the 4th of July but she changed the blue to red, so now it's just perfect for Canada Day! Since my birthday is in July, this was my gift from her.

Enjoy!

Happy Canada Day

Happy Canada Day!

Enjoy your day wherever you are.

Yesterday, I gave a flag to my granddaughter, who just moved to Canada from Chicago.
She was very excited and said she was soooo glad to be in Canada! We are soooo glad to have her and her parents here too.

Links to sewing projects

Last year, I blogged every day. Guess you could say I was dedicated to achieving that goal. This year, there have been other priorities. However, I do want to start sharing some blogs / projects with you again! That also means reading the blogs I receive via email etc. I've been slack about that too!

So here's the first few links to check. Hope you find something interesting:

    Canadian Anti-Spam Legislation

Today, July 1st, the Canadian anti-spam legislation takes affect. If you do not want to receive any emails from me notifying you of new content to my blog, please unsubscribe. Otherwise, everything will remain the same. Thank you for your continued support.

On another note, my blogging will not be as regular as it has been. Internet connections have been a bit spotty these days.

    Have a great Canada Day!

I realize that Canada Day is only a month away but you just might like to have a look at some simple projects to help you celebrate! Even if you don't have time to do something for this year, check out the Canada Day fabrics at the various quilt shops. Get some now for future use - make some napkins!

Anyway, check HERE and HERE for my past posts with lots of links.
I've also listed a few more place to visit - some free stuff, some eye candy, but maybe they will trigger some ideas!

    Canada Day 2011

On July 1, 2011, Canada celebrates its 144th birthday! This year is a special one as Their Royal Highnesses, Prince William and Catherine, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, will be in Ottawa, Canada's capital city, as part of their Royal Tour of Canada. You can check their itinerary here. Last year, Ottawa was host to Queen Elizabeth and Prince Phillip on Canada Day. Will there be more Royals next year to make it three in a row?
As usual, I found some projects to go with the Canada Day Theme.
Check last year's freebies here. I also found a couple of other projects to add to the list:
    12" Maple Leaf Block
    Table Runner Idea
    Canada Day Bib
    T-Shirts
This next project is called Royalty Block - quite fitting for our Royal Visitors. However, instead of using the American theme fabrics, try colours from the new Prince William Flag which will be flying in Ottawa tomorrow to honor the prince. The flag sports his personal red, white, blue and gold banner featuring a wreath of maple leaves and a cursive W.
