This is the 25th Anniversary Quilt Show of the Mahone Bay Quilt Guild in Nova Scotia. I attended the show on Friday. Yes, photos were permitted! It was difficult to get proper photos due to lack of space. Here's a few of the 100 displayed.

Show & Tell - Eye Candy!!

Quilt Guilds will soon be starting to meet again after taking the summer off. In fact, The Eastern Edge Quilters' here in St. John's, have their first meeting next Tuesday evening. It will be interesting to see everyone's finished projects, especially after July was such a miserable month weather wise. I wasn't home for that!

City of York - UK

Today I walked around the older part of York. The architecture is fantastic. I just love the old, old buildings as they have so much character. This afternoon our group had a special presentation by the museum curator of the Quilters Guild of the UK. We saw such wonderful quilted pieces as well as the quilts in the gallery. After that we did a bit of shopping and walked back to the hotel via the old wall that surrounds the city.

I'm writing this blog on my new ipad while on the road. It has been a learning experience. I will post photos when I return home.

Block of the Month

I've been searching for free Block of the Month patterns. Not that I'm going to do one but someone out there might be interested. However, in my searches I usually come across the unexpected. Then I save the site in One Note for future reference. You never know what you will find.
The Quilter Community has an alphabet pattern that is nice. All the blocks are ready for you to use.
For those out there with a sweet tooth, try Sweet Treats offered by the Quilter's Guild of Plano.
Snowbound, twelve months of snowmen, is the latest from Bunny Hill Designs. However, once all the blocks are posted. they will be taken off the 'free' page. Check out the tutorials as well.
For stitchers, here are some 'Flowers of the Month' patterns, a Country Calendar, Veranda Views and Under the Sea.
Just For Baby has applique blocks to make a quilt. To get the patterns, click on the text above each block. On the same web site check out the Floral Sampler and Magic Vine.
The Santa Rosa Quilt Guild has been very busy with their BOM's!  So have the Blue Mountain Quilters.
State Flower Quilt Blocks will be available until December 31, 2010.

I sat down to do a quick blog post! Time sure flies when you are having fun and I thought I was going to put away the things I purchased on my trip. Guess that will have to wait until tomorrow.

Piecemakers' Banner

 I had an email from my friend, Judith, in British Columbia yesterday. She sent me this picture. It was posted in the local Chilliwack paper, titled Fraser Valley countryside unfurled on Piecemakers' banner.
From left, Lyn Robinson, Pauline Thompson, Janet Skulsky, Judith Peckham and Sandra Lounsbury. These quilters are some of the members of the Chilliwack Piecemakers Quilting Guild who helped create this banner of the Fraser Valley.

The first thing I saw on the photo was the blue sky! Why, you wonder, was that so special? Up to that point, we hadn't seen much sun for the last two months! It was getting depressing. Well today made up for a bit of that. It was a gorgeous, warm sunny day and I spent most of it outside. Let's hope we get more days like today. 

Quilt Shows

I'm off to see a local quilt show today by the Baccalieu Quilters' Guild:  "Quiltin' Around the Bay 2010". In fact, I'm one of the three judges. Hopefully, I'll get some pictures to post.

Needle Felting

Last night at the Eastern Edge Quilt Guild, we had a talk and demonstration on needle felting. Quilters got a chance to try this technique.

• Mielke's Fiber Arts shows how to needle felt a lady bug. Learn about the kind of needles used in needle felting. 
• Some free patterns at Living Felt. Living Felt also shows how to felt a pattern that is drawn on a base fabric.

• Learn to make a felted apple at the Felted Ewe. This looks like a nice project to try.
