Green

Today there have been lots of good cheer on Face Book celebrating St. Patrick's Day. I'm not Irish but I do like the colour GREEN, especially in the garden.  Here's a small piece of mine that the Craft Council of NL posted today. They were posting green items from the shop all day.

As I don't have any Irish in me, I never think to post projects specifically to celebrate St. Patrick's Day. A visit to Michael's Craft Shop reminded me that it will be in a couple of weeks. Here's a few sites to visit with some patterns / projects / inspiration. You never know what you might find!

Going GREEN At the Oscars - 2013

Skyfall actress, Naomie Harris, wore a stunning dress to the Oscars last Sunday night. It was hand embroidered by embroiderers based at Hampton Court Palace, London, England. According to the news from the embroidery guild, more than 600 hours were spent making this dress. Read more about it here and here.

This dress won the Red Carpet Green Dress contest .

'The dress was made of a Global Organic Textile Standard certified organic silk crepe de chine, embroidered with vintage glass beads and chocolate candy wrappers, and dyed with golden rod and humble camomile, a renewable and biodegradable plant source. No water pollutants or chemicals were used, and the Royal School of Needlework in the UK spent a total of 680 hours hand-embroidering the gown with organic cotton thread. Not using machine-embroidery significantly reduced the dress’ carbon footprint, which is the amount of greenhouse gases emitted during its production.'

Rather stunning, wouldn't you say!

Monday Morning

I thought we were having spring! Snow wasn't in the picture on April 15. The grass was finally getting green and the crocus were blooming. But here's the view from my patio door a few minutes ago: UGH!!! Everything is covered in white. Spring 2011

Today we had sunshine! I took a quick look around my back garden. Armed with my camera, I captured some of the bright greens of early spring! The first photo will eventually grow into soft orange Day Lilies. The Periwinkle are just beginning to bloom. Soon there will be a carpet of these flowers underneath the Globe Cedar. I can't wait for the tulips to bloom as I don't remember their colour. These haven't bloomed in a couple of years and I have no idea why.
