Mask Pattern for you to try

Yikes! How did it get to be July 21st!!! Time sure does fly and I only go out when we need groceries or to visit family. Needless to say, this 'lock down' has made me realize how much time I've wasted out shopping and looking around at stuff that I don't really need. I have refined my priorities. Have you? Now that stores are opened, we do need to shop locally wherever possible and wear a mask.

When this 'lock down' started, my husband researched various masks to make. He found one that was designed by an American surgeon. This surgeon was not satisfied with the ones he was using and wanted the fabric away from his mouth and nose.

My husband sketched out a pattern from the doctor's site, for me to experiment with. Unfortunately, he forgot to save the link. As recommended on various mask making sites, Batik is the best fabric to use because of the tighter weave. There is a nose piece tab stitched on the top of the mask to hold a pipe cleaner (refer to diagram). The pipe cleaner is folded three times, cut to size and slipped into the tab. It moulds quite well to the shape of the nose.

I've had people comment on the mask because the fabric is away from the nose and mouth. You don't feel as claustrophobic as with some other masks.

As the mask is double, cut two pieces of the paper pattern. This mask is stitched on the top and sides so that there are no pin or stitch holes to allow anything to enter. I stitched the sides first and then joined them along the top (the same as if you were making an insert for a bag). Leave an opening for turning along where the nose piece tab goes. This opening gets stitched when sewing on the tab.

The pattern can be made in different sizes by making it larger or smaller.  You could also cut off the sharp corners and make them straight and then attach the elastic.

Photo Shoot!!

What a gorgeous day this was with +15.6C on the deck. My patio door was opened most of the afternoon. This morning my new clothesline was installed as it had collapsed last fall with a full line of towels on it! Needless to say, I was not impressed. BUT, now I'm a happy camper! Nothing is better than clothes, towels and bedclothes dried outside.

I was going to photograph my latest Reversible Fibre Lace Scarf on the line but there was a bit of a breeze and it wouldn't stay still. I decided to drape it on the lawn chair (I actually sat outside for awhile) but, as you can see, the shadows didn't help. Laying it out on the deck was the next best solution. I will be doing other shots but indoors with special lighting.

The scarf looks long in the photos. Its actual dimensions are 73 inches x 7 3/4 inches. The colours on both sides pop -  perfect for making any statement from bold to elegant, depending on the occasion.

The Monster Blizzard!!!

The snowstorm in Newfoundland beat all the previous records for snow accumulation and wind speed! If you are on social media, you have probably seen scads of photos and videos taken during and after the storm.

My friend sent me a photo from her house and looking across the road at the other properties. Zero visibility! She gave me permission to post it. Thanks, Marilyn.

Here in Pine Grove, NS, we had about 3 inches of snow overnight which is slowly turning to rain. Nothing to complain about as it is winter.

Artists at White Point Show & Sale

Last Sunday I attended Artists at White Point Show & Sale. 43 vendors from around Queens County and beyond, gathered at the Beach Resort to be part of the 7th annual show. Apparently, the number of visitors was way up from previous years. In fact, the tally of sales for the participating artists and creators, for this one day event, was an incredible $25,000.00.

A big thank you to the staff, especially Cathie Pincombe, of White Point Beach Resort, for hosting this magnificent event. Did I mention that it was free for vendors and visitors?

Also, thank you to those who stopped to say hello and to those who purchased something special for themselves or for someone else. It was a great day! Shimmer Ornaments were a hit.

Elaine Quehl and Patchwork Sitges 2018

Today's post is actually from a Face Book post written by Elaine Quehl, Canadian quilt artist, teacher, dyer and designer. Elaine was recently in Spain, attending the Sitges Patchwork Festival, where she taught a couple of classes and had a collection of her work on display.
