Muffins & Stuff!

Yesterday on Facebook, I posted three photos about my blueberry muffins. Since then, there have been quite a number of people making comments about them, especially the small amount of sugar used.

I used parchment paper liners which don't stick to the baked muffins. 

The recipe came from The Treasury of Newfoundland Dishes. My mom has several of her favourite recipes printed in this book. This is my second copy as the original one that mom gave me decades ago, is literally in tatters!

These muffins use little sugar. If your sweet tooth isn't satisfied, cut one in half and spread some jam!

Napkins, Anyone?

If you have an extensive fabric stash, making a few napkins is one way to use up some of that fabric. Christmas before last, my daughter asked for a bunch of them which were quite well received. This year, I decided to add to my napkin stash. We try not to use paper towels as napkins. 

The other night, I rummaged through some boxes of fabric that haven't seen the light of day for awhile and made my selection. After washing and ironing, the cutting began. I have a small stack of ready cut pieces for napkins. It's my go to project for times when I don't need to use up any more brain cells!

I did all mitred corners, which I particularly like and are easy to do. To find out how to make these for yourself, check out my other blog for the tutorial. 

Here's four napkins that I just finished! They are sort of colour coordinated. In any case, they call for Spring! Aren't you tired of the snow and cold weather! I know I am.

I will try to post on both blogs. The new one is still a challenge as it requires quite a learning curve, but hopefully, before too long, I won't have to ask for assistance. In any case, the old brain is getting a good run for the money, which is a good thing as we get older.

Dragonfly Shimmer

Hot off the embroidery machine! Yes, the Janome decided to behave. Actually, it was a needle problem. Anyway, here's the dragonfly shimmer:

I love this one with the silver wings. The next stitch out, will have a different body colour.

Happy American Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving to all my American relatives, friends and visitors to my blog! Today we are having a glorious, sunny day in St. John's. There was a sprinkle of snow last evening but the sun is quickly taking care of that (thank goodness as I'm not ready for that).

The End - of the fair, that is!!

The fair ended today! All in all, it was a very successful and busy one. In fact, I hardly had a chance to check out the other vendors. I sold out of the needle felted mittens and several shimmers such as snowflakes and the Newfoundland Map. Most of my Christmas Wearable Art Pins need to be replaced as well as the credit card / business card holders.

However, tonight and tomorrow my studio will remain closed to work. I have to catch up on sleep, read some email and visit my mother.

Sew Cute!

This is sew cute, that I had to share it. Baa Baa Black Sheep (or white) is the creation of Abby Glassenberg. You can find this tutorial at Sew Mama Sew. I figure we need something to help remind us that SPRING (hopefully) is just around the corner. However, the view from my window sure doesn't hint of anything close to spring. We are still into a deep freeze! Brrrrr!! The only consolation - the sun is shining.

Christmas Count Down

I was listening to the radio today and the announcer said there were just 15 shopping days left until Christmas! Where did the time go? My tree and decorations are still in boxes downstairs. My Charlie Brown Christmas Tree (I call it that as it is a skinny one just right for a corner in my kitchen) stands undecorated in my kitchen. I still have a few gifts to purchase and some to stitch. A light Christmas Fruitcake was just put into the oven. Our family loves fruitcake.

My advent wall hanging will not get finished for this Christmas. I still have lots of work to do on it. Hopefully it will go to Chicago this summer - finished!

I did find a few interesting Advent Calendars to quilt or stitch. Maybe there is one you would like to try and make for next year. Have a look.
