Dalplex Christmas Market

At Dalplex, Jill and I shared a 15' x 8' booth (you can see her in the 2nd. photo). Lots of glorious space for both of us !!!

My table layout is basically the same with a few minor changes. You can see scarves hanging on the rack behind the table as well as in front. Well, that's not going to happen at the next show as I sold four lovely pieces at this one. I have 8 Fibre Lace Scarves left for this year.

Art cards / envelopes made an appearance this time as I had forgotten about them. I finished stitching the embroidered flowers just before the show. Each background was hand painted and the stems / leaves were free-motion machine stitched to the background. The flowers came last.

Some News and Other Stuff

Oh, dear! Halloween already - we had about half a dozen trick or treaters knock at the door. October has been a very busy month of production.

Late September, I found out that my submission to Craft Nova Scotia (craft council) was accepted and that I could participate in the Craft Nova Scotia Christmas Craft Show, Halifax, November 16  - 18. While I'm doing this show, Jill, my daughter, be be at the Christmas Market at White Point Beach. That one is by invitation.

Jill and I are also doing the Christmas Craft Village, November 9 - 11. I tried to do Christmas at the Forum but it was filled. We will also be at the Dalplex Christmas Market, December 23 - 25. Both these will also be in Halifax.

The first weekend of December, you will find us at the Lunenburg Christmas Market, which is much closer to home.

All the above contributed to my intermittent blogging because, frankly, I had to get my head around doing all these shows and having enough work produced to sell.  In St. John's, I did two Christmas fairs: the Christmas Craft Fair, Craft Council of NL, and the Anna Templeton Christmas Tea and Sale.

Over the next little while, I will be showing some for the things made for the above markets.

My Booth at the Christmas Craft Fair

The Christmas Craft Fair is over for another year! Five very busy, successful, days!!

I had a corner booth, sized 8' x 12'. This time, I decided to have a separate display for the Shimmers (blue board below). I was going to drape black fabric over the blue board but decided to leave it. The blue matched the drapes in the stadium. Lots of Shimmers will have new homes this Christmas!

Icicles

No, we aren't having winter weather, yet!! However, I am making new shimmer ornaments for the Christmas Craft Fair next month. These icicles will be sold in sets of three and are stitched in white and silver thread. I have new packaging ordered to fit these longer ornaments. These will sparkle on a Christmas tree or hung in a window.

The End - of the fair, that is!!

The fair ended today! All in all, it was a very successful and busy one. In fact, I hardly had a chance to check out the other vendors. I sold out of the needle felted mittens and several shimmers such as snowflakes and the Newfoundland Map. Most of my Christmas Wearable Art Pins need to be replaced as well as the credit card / business card holders.

However, tonight and tomorrow my studio will remain closed to work. I have to catch up on sleep, read some email and visit my mother.

One More Day . . .

Another fabulous day at the Christmas Craft Fair! Tomorrow is the last day.

This year, I decided to display one of my larger pieces, View From The Rooms, to let customers know that I create more than Christmas items. Lots of great comments - several from other prominent Newfoundland artists. Needless to say, I was very pleased.

Shimmer Ornaments

I decided to have a tree set up with just Shimmer Ornaments for my display at the Christmas Craft Fair. I didn't realize how many Christmas ones there were until they were gathered together on the table. However, since trying them on the tree, I decided to go with coloured lights instead of the white ones.

Tomorrow I will post photos from the craft fair.

This bag from Michaels holds all my gift bags / boxes and tissue paper. Looks nice in the booth.

Fantasy Fish

This is the last underwater art piece that I've done for the Christmas Craft Fair. All my framing will be finished in the morning.

Underwater Art Pieces

I'm trying to finish up a few art pieces for the Christmas Craft Fair. Each one will be framed with a black metal frame ordered especially for these embroideries. Click on the photos to get a close-up view.

Pendants!

I added a few more Fibre Art Pendants to my supply for the Christmas Craft Fair. Here's some of them.

There are a couple more new Christmas shimmer designs that I will share soon. I can hear the embroidery machine doing its thing as I write. My husband creates all my shimmer designs in Corel Draw and then they are converted to stitch in another program. That program can convert the stitch to be used with any embroidery machine on the market.

It's a great team effort!

New Fibre Art Pendants

Friday, I took another order of  Fibre Art Pendants to The Rooms Gift Shop. They are a popular item in the shop. This morning, I finished up the ones you see below. I'm trying to get things in gear for the Christmas Craft Fair in November. This fair will be at the Jack Byrne Arena, Torbay

Fibre Lace Scarve

Here is another reversible Fibre Lace Scarf that was finished last week. My scarves will be at the Christmas Craft Fair (Craft Council of NL Juried Work), November 11 - 15 at the Jack Byrne Arena. If you are going to be in the area at that time, please drop by as there will be lots of vendors from all over the province.

Working!!!

This morning I was busy working in my studio. It's easy to know when I'm back at work as every surface seems to have something on it. Oh, my!!! It took me a minute to locate my camera so I could photograph my 'work in progress'.

In any event, it's time to make more Fibre Lace Scarves for the Christmas Craft Fair in November. I surprised myself as I managed to put together two scarves that are ready for stitching and another one is almost done. With a few more yarns to be added to the layout, it, too, will be ready.

I found that last year, red combinations were popular. I realized I was short on various shades of red yarn, so during my overnight stop in Toronto (on my way back from Chicago in April), I purchased what I needed at Romni Wools!

Here's some of my bins of yarn. I've 'filed' the yarns by colour as it's much easier to find what I want. There are 10 bins of yarn on the floor of my room. Yikes!!



Work in Progress

New Pendants

During the summer, I did work on some new pendants. As you can see, I was into flowers. In all, I finished about 30 (not all flowers). They are now ready for the local market and Christmas Craft Fair. My pendants are light weight, will fit in an envelope, and are inexpensive to mail. They make wonderful gifts and each is one-of-a-kind!
