Up Date on Shows - Craft Nova Scotia

Since the show at White Point, I've exhibited at Craft Nova Scotia and Dalplex. On December 7 - 8, I'll be at the Lunenburg Christmas Event at the Bluenose Academy (one of three venues within walking distance of each other).

Here are several photos from Craft Nova Scotia, Cunard Center, Halifax.

I have a new grid system for displaying framed art. On top is one of my large textile pieces, View From The Rooms.

A new Shimmer Display spinner, made by my husband, is perfect and doesn't take up lots of space.

The trees have samples of all my Shimmer Ornaments. Visitors can see them at a glance. If they aren't on the table, they are easy for me to get.

  Wearable Art Pins were very popular at all the shows!

The three Fibre Lace Scarves in front were off to happy customers early in the show. I still have a few left for next weekend at Lunenburg. I design and make a limited number each year. I have taken requests for certain colour combinations.

The Sea-Spired Wearable Art Show

White Point Beach Resort is hosting The Sea-Spired Wearable Art Show on the Saturday before Mother's Day. This is the first time such a show has been held at the resort. I was invited to attend and show some of my wearable Art pieces which include Fibre Lace Scarves, Fibre Art Pendants, Art Pins, Evening Purses and Card Cases.

Craft Council of NL New Location

The Craft Council of Newfoundland and Labrador, moved to a new location in July. For almost three decades, the Craft Council operated out of Devon House, a brick building next to Devon Row, and near the Sheraton Hotel. Now it has more space and easier access at 275 Duckworth Street, the former home of the Telegram newspaper. 

I missed the grand opening and wondered about how my shimmers, jewellery and card holders were displayed. Well, my friend, Joan Cane, was there and took these photos:

I'm pleased with the display and will certainly pay a visit to the new shop and gallery on my next trip back to St. John's. I'm not sure when that will be yet. Thanks again, Joan Cane, for the photos!

New Adventure

I'm off to Northern Ontario tomorrow to teach at the Espanola Fibre Arts Festival. I'm looking forward to teaching on Friday and Sunday. Students will be creating their own Fibre Art Pendants.

On Saturday, I will be a vendor at the Vendor's Market. I will have a small selection of Shimmer Ornaments, Wearable Art Pins, Felted Ornaments and Pendants. It will be interesting to visit other vendors.

Felted / Beaded Wearable Art Pin

I finished a couple of one-of-a-kind felted / beaded Wearable Art Pins recently. Here's one of three. These will be for sale at the Anna Templeton Christmas Tea & Sale this weekend. I will be on the 3rd floor.

Needle Felted Wearable Art Pins

Happy Thanksgiving, Canada

Happy Thanksgiving to my family and friends, near and far. We just got home last Tuesday afternoon after 4 1/2 months, so needless to say, it has been a very busy week.

I'm getting ready for the Craft Council Christmas Craft Fair in early November and the Anna Templeton Center Christmas Tea and Sale in December.

New Shimmer Ornaments and Needle Felted Wearable Art Pins are in progress. Photos will be posted soon.

Wearable Art Pins

I always make my fantasy fabric base using a variety of glitzy threads and yarns.  When the base is finished, it's hooped and then embroidered by machine. Before I invested in an embroidery machine, all the designs were done by free motion stitching. That was a lot of work!

All my designs are designed in Corel Draw by my husband and then converted to stitch in another computer program. Then it's ready to be stitched out.

Evening Bag

Several years ago, I designed and created a series of Evening Purses. One of the features of these purses is the Wearable Art Pin that is pinned onto each purse. It can be worn on a jacket or coat or an another one used in its place.

I kept this black and red one. A few evenings ago, I had another occasion to use it. 

Road Trek - Part Two

As promised, here are more photos from yesterday's road trek to Herbie's Olde Shoppe.

The owner of Herbie's Olde Shoppe is Rhodie Anne Woodland. She told me that her shop is a one stop shop as there is something for everyone. For example, t-shirts screen printed in NL, art work, greeting cards, knitted goods, jewellery, toys, books (NL authors), jams, tea towels, rug hooking patterns, ornaments, quilts, cloth tote bags . . . She did remark that there isn't a lot of items for men. She said there's a definite market for that but not many crafters are taking advantage of it.

My shimmers are displayed in a step up clear acrylic stand, as you can see below. Rhodie Ann decided to put out the rest that couldn't fit in the stand in the yellow basket. For some reason, most of the shimmers sold, come from that basket instead of the display case. Interesting!

From 1933, this old Singer Sewing machine is still in perfect working order!

We also stopped at Chafe's Landing (around the corner from Herbie's) and had lunch. We had the most delicious fish and chips. The cod fish was fresh and just lightly battered. It melted in my mouth and the best I've had since the last time I was there. If you are ever in Petty Harbour, you must drop in there for a meal.

ACTS, Halifax

I just finished sending off photos to the Atlantic Canada Trade Show (ACTS) in Halifax. All participants were asked to send along some photos of work that can be used in the electronic showcase during the show. I just made the deadline!
