Happy Canadian Thanksgiving

 Happy Thanksgiving Weekend Canada!

Wishing all my relatives and friends near and far, a very happy, safe Thanksgiving Weekend.

In honour of this special holiday, I have the perfect autumn quilt, which was made by my sister, Joan, in Tennessee. She made it and hand delivered it in 2018, for my July birthday.

This photo was taken today where the temperature reached 22C. I was lucky to get the full view of the quilt as it was a bit breezy. The wind reminded me of home in Newfoundland where it's windy most of the time!

The back fabric is all birch trees.

My back garden is displaying its gorgeous autumn colours, most of which, are in this quilt.

Enjoy!!

3 Pillows

Now that the Twelve Days of Christmas are over, I can show you these quilted pillows my sister, Joan, made us for Christmas. Joan was posting photos on Instagram for the Twelve Days of Christmas and one of the pillows was day 12. I didn't want to spoil her fun. The pillows have 12 triangles of the Flying Geese pattern. You can see more of Joan's Instagram photos @lovemombo. She shows among other things, quilts, knitted socks, children's clothes and garden stuff!

These pillows match two quilts that she previously made for us. The center pillow has stitched and beaded motifs that she found on a piece of fabric at a thrift store in Tennessee. She sure knows how to use such different finds! Thanks, Joan. Love the pillows.

Now for some things I found:
 Enjoy!!

A Surprise!

It was my sister, Joan's birthday on the 18th. She certainly got a surprise gift from me, my hand embroidered / quilted 'Snow Happens'. It had caused me some frustration as I had difficulty with the blue blocks on the border and of course, I ranted about it last year to her. So when she opened her gift, she wrote right away: (we talked later that evening).

YOUR blue snowman embroidery!
I can't believe you gave that away - you did so much work on it - and actually I was thinking
about it a few days ago - how much I liked the blue embroidery and maybe after
Christmas I'd get a pattern and work on one!
Thank you soooo much - it's beautiful.

Isn't it nice to surprise someone!

Enjoy, Joan!!!

Anniversary Quilt

Our 50th anniversary was in June. Joan, my sister, brought her gift to us this week. Of course, it's a queen size quilt. She knows I'm not much into hearts but she said these were not hearts (ya, right) but stylized J and L for our names. The white background has gold on it to represent the 50 years. The letters and numbers on the back are pieced. The 150 is for Canada's birthday.

It's a beautiful quilt, Joan. Much appreciated by both of us. Thanks!

Nautical Theme

My sister, Joan, arrived at noon from Tennessee. She had a long drive to get here. Of course, my birthday present came with her. I had posted about this Nautical Octopus Beach Bag on July 12th. and mentioned that I loved the pattern. So Joan downloaded the FREE pattern and made it for me. It was a total surprise! I love it. The colours are perfect for me. The bag also had some fat quarters and the blue fish. The fish will be going in my new garden in Nova Scotia. Thanks, Joan. You are a special sister.

We just bought a house near Bridgewater, NS - close to family and sleep-overs with our granddaughter. Gale and I will be planting bulbs in the fall. New adventures ahead!

In my back yard

I'm pretending the fish is swimming among the river weeds.

Pineapples, Horses & Arrows

My sister, Joan, just sent a few photos of quilts she has finished this spring.

The pineapple quilt has vintage yellow backing from an estate sale. (Joan finds fabulous things at these sales). The flange and binding match the pineapple crown. The "Be a Pineapple" on the back, is a dish towel from Wal Mart.

The horses are for her rancher friend's birthday.
The arrows quilt has is bound in rainbow scraps from the arrows.

Tuesday Links & More

It was another beautiful day here in St. John's. The thermometer out back reached 20C. I couldn't believe my eyes! I was out for a good portion of the day so not much got done in the studio.

So, I'm linking you up with some Tuesday Links and a few other things!
More flowers from Joan's garden in Tennessee!

Enjoy!

Joan's Quilts

My sister, Joan, has been busy quilting up a storm! This first one is part of a series. She will send photos when the others are finished.

This is a cute Christmas Quilt. I love the colors. The yellow is Kona Cotton's color of the year 2016, Highlight.

Winter Couch Quilt

My sister, Joan, has been quilting again. This time, she made a Winter Couch Quilt for her home. It's made out of dish towels and wool batting. Joan got the towels at Ollie's Discount Store, 2 for $1.99 and purchased all 6 packs. The towels were cut in quarters. She added the grey 'It's the most wonderful time of the year' scrap fabric from Hancocks before they closed.

I think it's a marvelous quilt. Trust my sister to find great bargains!!!

Oil Rig Quilt: 2200 Mile Road Trip!

My sister, Joan, showed this quilt to me here in Nova Scotia but she didn't send photos until yesterday. Here's what she said about it:

"I found this offshore oil rig quilt top for $3 at Habitat for Humanity in TN. I added cotton batting, a vintage sheet backing, and Hancock closeout (so sad) binding. I quilted organic wavy lines, top to bottom, and took it on a 2200 mile road trip to Topsail Beach, Newfoundland, Canada!
Pongo is enjoying the beach-combing findings."

Beautiful job, Joan!!
