Happy Valentine's Day

A day late as I forgot to publish it! Darn!!!!

My granddaughter loves 'stuffies' as she calls all stuffed animals. She's never been one for dolls but has lots of stuffed creatures. Here's her Valentine stuffie bear. (we had a sleepover so she got this when she woke up)!

Tonight I also uploaded Lesson Two of Four, Garden Sewing Box, to the Virtual Threads group (Embroiderers' Association of Canada). They will have a busy two weeks.

Enjoy and stay safe!

Tree of Life

January is going out with sunny skies and above freezing temperatures! It's a lovely day outside with no wind here in Pine Grove, NS.

On another note:

In case I haven't mentioned it before, I'm the librarian for the Mahone Bay Quilt Guild. As a perk of this job, I get to see the newest magazines before anyone else. The latest issue of Quilt Mania, The Quilt Magazine # 135, (which will be at guild on Monday), has a small applique felted wall hanging of a Tree of Life  This one is geared to Valentine's Day. To view a thumbnail sketch of the pattern, go to their site HERE. Scroll down and click on the picture to make it bigger. When I glanced at this particular pattern, I immediately thought that it could be adapted for various occasions such as Easter, Christmas, Autumn, Winter, Spring, Birthdays etc by adding pieces of Velcro to the background and to the small shapes to be used. It can be as simple or as complicated as you wish! The skies the limit!

Happy Valentine's Day!!

We are having a snow storm. At the moment (8:40am) it's blizzard conditions! Let's hope you got your Valentine's Day 'stuff' ready yesterday! I wonder if anyone received one of my heart shaped Fibre Art Pendants?

Enjoy the day wherever you are.

Paper Pieced Hearts

I was digging through some of my mother's things (she just moved to a nursing home) and found this paper pieced wall hanging that I made ages ago.  It's hanging on her wall beside her bed.

Here's a few links to valentine blocks / projects:

Hearts

I was searching for some Valentine's Day projects and came across a bunch of free cross stitch patterns at Cyber Stitchers.com.  You will find all kinds of subject matter there.

Now on to my original subject of Valentines,  as you have just a month to get something done in time. I'm not into the heart / Valentine related stuff but lots of you are. Here are a few finds for today:
Of course, my Fibre Art Heart Shaped Pendants are just the thing to wear on Valentine's Day or any day, for that matter. As you can see below, the traditional reds and pinks aren't found here.

Valentine Links!

I met a friend and avid reader of my blog at the supermarket this morning. She misses my daily posts. Thanks for saying that. Well this one is for you, Paula! Happy reading.

Valentine's Day is less than two weeks away. While I'm not into decorating or doing anything special for this day, many of you out there are. If my granddaughter lived near me, then that would probably make a difference. In the meantime enjoy my links:

Fabric Purchase

I didn't purchase many fabrics this time during my Chicago visit. The few I did get will probably be used for mug rugs or other small projects. Some very glitzy pieces did find their way back to Newfoundland! The photo doesn't do them justice. They will be used to make more fantasy fabric. I find that lime green really pops out in a piece as well as neon colours.

This blue piece reminded me of glass. I have no idea what I will do with it!
The hearts in the red fabric are metallic.
The Cats and owls appealed to me - fun pieces.

Valentine Mug Rugs

In case you haven't the time become involved in a big quilting project, why not consider making a mug rug for someone special for Valentine's Day. A mug rug or mug mat can be as small as a coaster or as large as a place mat. Some people differ on the sizes for these 'mini quilts'. You can read The Patchsmith's comments mug rugs.

Here's a few mug rugs to consider:

Valentine's Day Projects!

We are certainly having terrible weather here in Newfoundland. The whole island lost the electricity for a major portion of the day. We were in the cold for about 6 hours. Apparently there was a fire at one of the substations and that triggered a loss of power to several other stations. Of course, it's nothing compared to what was experienced in Ontario during Christmas, so we really can't complain too much. Enough about the weather and on to the real subject for today!

Next month is Valentine's Day so I've selected a few projects for you to consider.
Enjoy!!

Happy Valentine's Day

I hope everyone has a great Valentine's Day. Don't forget to check out Day 4 of the Hugs and Kisses blog hop. One of the nice things about blog hops is the opportunity to see the work of quilters who are participating in the hop! Sometimes there are even free draws for prizes for those who leave comments. Check out all the blogs from the last three days too.

A Gem of a Find!

Bugs and Fishes by Laura "Lupin" Howard, UK, came to my attention today. One of the embroiderers (thanks Jewel) tagged it as a place to visit for a free cross stitch heart brooch. However, Laura's site has lots of other interesting handmade felty things too. Yes, she works mainly in felt.  Laura shares lots of free projects and writes tutorials for various craft publications. I own a copy of Fa la la la Felt in which she has original designs for a Gingerbread House; Star Bright; Cherry & Bright, a christmas stocking and Layer Play, a rainbow of circles ornament. Her own published book is Super-Cute Felt.
Why not drop by her site for a visit. You won't be disappointed!

February 14th.

Valentine's Day, according to the flower shops, is their best day of the year for sales! However, Saint Valentine's Day (shortened to Valentine's Day) is a holiday observed on February 14 honouring one or more early Christian martyrs. It is traditionally a day in which lovers express their love for each other by presenting gifts of flowers and / or chocolates and sending cards. Quilters and stitchers often like to mark the month of February by having special heart shaped 'stuff' around either as a hanging, coasters, table topper or small quilt. Me, I'm not into making things for every holiday that comes along. I'd rather just have something to designate the four seasons and Christmas. However, I did find some Valentine projects for you to consider. Most of them are freebies. Enjoy!

Happy Valentine's Day

Happy Valentine's Day everyone! I'm not much into quilted or stitched heart stuff and as a result didn't post any free patterns from any of the sites I visit. However, I just came across something on twitter that is useful. It's an altered heart shaped candy box tutorial. Recycle that candy box that you received today and turn it into a pincushion or storage box for applique . . . This tutorial is a great way to practice free motion stitching too.
Alice Burke also has a bunch of tutorials using new & recycled materials.

Here's a pattern for a heart tote bag.
