Flower Tree

During July, I was in Wolfville, NS, with family. My four year old granddaughter saw this tree with all the blossoms and immediately called it the Flower Tree. If anyone can tell me its name, I'd appreciate it. I just love the colours!

New Pendants

During the summer, I did work on some new pendants. As you can see, I was into flowers. In all, I finished about 30 (not all flowers). They are now ready for the local market and Christmas Craft Fair. My pendants are light weight, will fit in an envelope, and are inexpensive to mail. They make wonderful gifts and each is one-of-a-kind!

Fiber Lilly - Fabrics

Fiber Lilly had their first year anniversary this summer. I dropped by a couple of days ago to check things out as I've been gone since mid June. Nine new shelves of quilting fabric have been added! Apparently lots more fabric is on the way.

I'm not affiliated in any way with this store. However, I do like to promote and shop locally. If you are in town, please check them out. They do have lots of other supplies including yarns, notions and sewing machines.

Show & Tell - Eye Candy!!

Quilt Guilds will soon be starting to meet again after taking the summer off. In fact, The Eastern Edge Quilters' here in St. John's, have their first meeting next Tuesday evening. It will be interesting to see everyone's finished projects, especially after July was such a miserable month weather wise. I wasn't home for that!

Textile Art

I was reading through some emails and came across one from The Quilt Show. Of course, the heading, ' The $45 Million Tapestry ' caught my eye! This price broke the record for the most money ever paid for a piece of Chinese Art. The tapestry, made in the 15th Century, has significant historical value in Chinese history. Another piece of textile art, this time, a quilt, titled ' Maya's Quilt of Life ', will be going on auction in September. It is estimated that it will go for at least $150,000. See more about this quilt HERE.

Linky Tuesday

I'm working on some pieced birds. It's very liberating as there's no measuring, just rotary cutting and sewing. Yes, quite a departure for me from my regular work. I'll post photos soon. You might also see a wonky row house or two.

Misty Monday

It's a foggy but warm day. A good one to spend at the sewing machine! I hope someone out there managed to get a bit of stitching done. Yesterday was my day for doing that (more on that later)!

Birthdays

My sister always surprises me on my birthday! This year, she presented me with this fantastic tree skirt. She saw a quilt with trees on it that she liked and decided to design her own quilted tree skirt. Joan had reds and greens left over from the quilt she gave me last Christmas and decided to make the skirt to match it. You can see the quilt HERE. 

The tree skirt that I use was made years ago from a pre-printed panel from Fabricville. All I had to do was stitch two half circles together, add batting and a back, then quilt it. No imagination for that at all.

My sister and I went to Wool Trends today. As I was leaving, I saw this leaf on the ground. The colour intrigued me so I brought it home. It looks good on my leather look placemat. This is an excellent colour combination (at least, I think so).

Home

Well, we are finally back home after over two months away. I must say, we had great weather. This is the first time we got back home during August in several years. As a result, I managed to see some of my garden in bloom. My brother did send me photos during the summer but it is not the same as been there. This is just part of the side gardens. Have a look!

The Unexpected!



I visited a local farm a few days ago but certainly didn't expect to see these two animals! The goats I would expect to see there.

 

Wolfville Farmers' Market

Last Saturday, I visited the Wolfville Farmer's' Market. This market is held each Saturday year round and Wednesdays from May to December.  Most of the vendors are inside the DeWolfe Building on Elm Street but there is space outside for any overflow. The market hosts over 60 vendors. You can purchase fresh produce, local wines, fresh bread and sweets as well as jewellery, pottery, and chocolate (to name a few). In fact, one can sit and eat a meal from locally made dishes. On Saturday, there was also live music in the outside area.

I did stop and chat with Pamela Kinsman of Signature Glass. Some of her lovely work is below.

Did I mention purchasing some local blueberries and fresh bread? Mmmmmm!

Hot and Sunny

I'm really glad to hear that Newfoundland is experiencing some great summer weather as they had a miserable, cold July! It's been great here in Nova Scotia. I've been taking lots of photos. Now, I hope they will inspire me to get started on some new projects. I must be honest, I haven't done much in the way of hand work. It has been a relaxing couple of months.
