Bits & Pieces!! & UFO # 2

I hope you had a chance to view some of the shows on The Quilt Show this weekend. I managed to get a couple in but that was all. I spent today setting up for the Wholesale Show tomorrow as well as attend a lunch / lecture related to selling to the public.

Yesterday I spent some time cleaning up my email accounts. Then tonight I realized that I hadn't been very prompt replying to some recent comments made on my blog. Of course, by that time, I had to go and reply on each post as the old emails were gone. So, in case you are wondering if that person ever responds to comments . . . yes, I do, but if you were missed, please check back on my past posts as I commented there. Does that make sense? GRIN - I hope so. Anyway, you are very important to me as I love receiving your comments.

Here's another UFO that was completed last week. A friend gave me this piece of Christmas fabric as few years ago. I thought it was about time to make it into a mug rug for next December. I did some stitching around the squares and rectangles.

Enjoy!

Textile Art

I was reading through some emails and came across one from The Quilt Show. Of course, the heading, ' The $45 Million Tapestry ' caught my eye! This price broke the record for the most money ever paid for a piece of Chinese Art. The tapestry, made in the 15th Century, has significant historical value in Chinese history. Please go to the blog page to see it.

Another piece of textile art, this time, a quilt, titled ' Maya's Quilt of Life ', will be going on auction in September. It is estimated that it will go for at least $150,000. See more about this quilt HERE.

If you are interested in reading more about the emergence of textile art, check out an interesting article by the Wall Street Journal.

Here's a couple of articles on Textile Art:

Eye Candy From Paducah Quilt Show (not mine)

I'm so glad other folks find it important to post photos from shows they visit. I was so glad to be able to share mine a few weeks ago of the International Quilt Show in Chicago. I've heard that the Paducah Quilt Show has quite the display of quilts this year too. Here's a few from Jane's Quilting Website.

The Quilt Show is also posting images from Paducah, and so is Quilt Week.

I did a search for Paducah Quilt Show 2015 photos and got lots of images. However, the images aren't all from this year but I thought I'd link them anyway. Check them out HERE.

I'm sure there will be lots of photos posted in the next couple of weeks by those who attended this great show this weekend. Wouldn't it be great if quilts from the various shows were posted on the web for everyone to see. As it is, only those who are fortunate to attend, see them all. Wishful thinking!! I know there are other issues regarding this, but anyway, one can dream and be thankful that others post photos for all to see!!

Enjoy!!

International Quilting Weekend - The Quilt Show

In honor of International Quilting Weekend, March 20-22, 2015, The Quilt Show (www.thequiltshow.com), the web TV show hosted by Alex Anderson and Ricky Tims, will open all of its shows from the first nine series-- shows 100-1513 --for the entire weekend.

This means that, for three special days, everyone will have the chance to view over 200 shows, featuring some of the quilting world’s leading artists, for FREE.

Link to the TQS website landing page:

Enjoy next weekend!

Here I am with Alex Anderson and Ricky Tims last summer at Ricky's 3 day seminar in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Ricky is going to be in St. John's, NL next month, courtesy of Piecemakers Quilt Shop and Bernina. Check Piecemakers for more information.

Quilts and more. . .

Where to begin! It was an interesting weekend at the Ricky Tims Quilt Seminar. 320 people were registered for this event. Each of the instructors had some of their books and patterns for sale. Ricky Tims also had lots of his hand dyed fabrics available.

The Pine Needles Sewing Centre, the Bernia Sewing Machines representative, had a variety of machines on display. There were lots of deals for anyone in the market for a new machine. Photos of the shop will be posted soon. What a fabulous place!

Here are some photos from the quilt show with more to follow another day. The first two belong to Alex Anderson. I believe the one with all the applique will be on the Quilt Show web site as a pattern to do in the fall. It's a beautiful piece.

The next two belong to Ricky Tims. You can recognize his caveman technique of cutting without a ruler. I rather like this technique. You should see his method of cutting strips of fabrics!!!

The last three belong to Pam Holland. I was intrigued with her use of cheese cloth in the faces art quilts. I use my hand dyed cheese cloth for mountains and hills as backgrounds in some of my pieces.

Enjoy!
