Six Weeks Of Love For Softies

This post should be of interest to everyone who has young children in their lives.

Six Weeks Of Love For Softies is a challenge to create stuffed animals, soft toys and cloth dolls. Each day Sew Mama Sew is posting unique and interesting examples of softies in their Softie Du Jour series. They are also posting tutorials, tips and lots of free patterns from softie designers and pattern makers.

This is mid way so be sure to check out all the previous posts.

Here's a soft toy I made for my granddaughter when she was still a baby. This giraffe was from a Tilda pattern. Check out some Tilda patterns on Pinterest.
Enjoy!

PS
We are in the middle of a major snowstorm here in Newfoundland so it's a great day to spend sewing something special! I sure wish the weather would get warmer. . .

Gifts Given . . . Enjoy

Here are some of the things I made for Christmas gifts. The quilt is from a kit I purchased last summer at the Hobby Horse, Georgetown, Ontario. The panel caught my eye as each block has words about the sounds each object makes. It's part of the Little Genius series. The toy giraffe pattern was from Tilda's Studio by Tone Finnanger. Both were made for my little granddaughter in Chicago.

This bird was featured in a Quilting Arts Magazine. It lives in Manitoba. A similar one is in Tennessee.
I made five table toppers but I forgot to photograph the one gone to Texas.

Happy New Year!!

It's 1C, sunny and windy outside but warm and toasty in my room! At the moment my studio resembles a space that has been neglected with things on every surface. That's what happens when I'm in clean up mode. I want a fresh, clean space but that means getting rid of 'stuff' and most of my 'stuff' is useful. Whenever I give something away or just toss it, the next week or so I find a use for it. This time, my basement will receive a few more things.

I'm looking forward to 2013. One of my goals is to spend more time with family (especially those in Chicago) and with my friends. Workwise - to experiment with new techniques and apply them to my art and to work on larger pieces.

In the meantime, check these out!

Cat

I've been a cat lover for years. When my daughter started kindergarten we got a shelter kitten named Blossom (on her certificate). She was quickly renamed Mittens because of her 4 white paws. To me, she was always affectionately called Puss!! Puss lived for 17 years.

I was visiting relatives in Ottawa and they have a beautiful white Persian called Tissue (Scotties tissue commercial). These photos are for my stitching friend in NL who has cats. She'll know who I mean.

To celebrate cats, here are a few links to check:
I have more but they will have to wait for another time.
Enjoy!

Stuff For Children

I've been working all day on my art piece and was taking a break. Checking out some blogs, I came across this one called Ikat Bag. There are lots of free patterns and tutorials for you to use. Many of them are for children.
I also came across Cloth Baby Shoes by Joanna Armour. Her site, Star Dust Shoes has free tutorials.
Check out this Stuffed Pig - it's a cutie! Lots of other stuffed toys on this site.
Maybe some of these projects could turn into Easter gifts.

Enjoy!
