Shopping in St. John's

While in St. John's last week, I visited Fiber Lilly, Sew Many Stitches, Sewing World, Cast On Cast Off (recently moved to Duckworth Street) and Some Good Market. Of course, I made a few purchases! Here's a few of them:

The Peekaboos!

Some Good Market was back in town today. Hillary Simpson, Because I Felt Like It, had posted her newest product: The Peekaboos, on Face Book! She is making these in collaboration with Pottery With A Purpose.

Her cute pincushions caught my eye on Face Book and I just had to see them. Did I get one? Yes! Two of them. One for me and one for Gale. Gale has a gray kitten and her favorite colours are pink and purple so you know which one is for her. Me, the bright red pot caught my attention.

Some Warm Welcome Project for Syrian Refugees

I had 'Some Good Day' at Some Good Market.

If you aren't from Newfoundland, you probably get a chuckle out of hearing someone saying that something is 'some good'. For example, 'That supper was some good' instead of saying 'That was a good supper.' Enough on that!

Laurie LeGrow started Some Good Market a couple of years ago as a place for crafters / artists to sell their product to the local market year round. This has since grown to the point that it has become a place to visit on market day. However, this isn't quite the focus of my post. Laurie decided to become involved with knitting warm hats, mitts, scarves etc. for the Syrian Refugees coming to Canada this fall and winter.

Some Good Market is inviting knitters and crocheters from all over to make a warm hat (or mittens, vamps, socks or scarves) in any size or shape to welcome Syrian refugees when they arrive in Canada.

Market Day

Yesterday there was snow on the ground and today it was up to 13 + C and sunny. Go figure but I hope it stays warm for awhile.

Today was spent at Some Good Market. It was a bit of a slow morning but things picked up after lunch. Apparently there was a lot going on in the city today with a some school markets, the Farmer's market, tax free day downtown and a continuation of 20% off at the Avalon Mall. I did give out all the advertising brochures for next weeks Christmas Craft Fair. Since the venue has changed this year, we want to pass along this infomation on to as many people as possible.

Another Reversible Fibre Lace Scarf!

Today was spent at Some Good Market. Talked to lots of people and had sales. All in all, a good day! Thank you to everyone who stopped by and to those who purchased from me.

I realized today that I have to get busy (but not tonight) and make more Fibre Lace Scarves. There's just one month until the Christmas Craft Fair!

Fusibles

Tomorrow I will be a vendor at Some Good Market here in St. John's. I will be introducing my Fusibles - Pre-Cut Applique pieces. A few days ago, I posted about our Klic-N-Kut machine that can cut very precise shapes. Well, these leaves were cut on that machine. It does a very nice job, if I do say so. I plan to do some silhouettes over the next few months.

Time Flies!!!

Where does the time go? I had very successful Fall and Christmas Fairs. Thank you to all who visited and for those who purchased art pieces from me. You are very important people.

The tree is up and decorated. The shopping is done. Time to catch a breath and relax. If you still have a few more gifts to buy, check out your local art and craft shops. I'm sure there are lots of nifty gifts yet to find.

Some Good Market

Tomorrow, I will be at Some Good Market. The market is located at Canon Wood Hall, on the corner of Military Road and Kingsbridge Road. This will be the last market in town until after Christmas.

I will have my one-of-a-kind Fibre Lace Scarves and Fibre Art Pendants. I will also have a limited number of covered journals, Credit Card Holders and Starfish Pincushions (new). There are still some Christmas shimmer ornaments and Christmas Wearable Art Pins.

Yesterday I finished stuffing a few new embellished starfish pincushions. I have them all ready for Some Good Market next Saturday. They aren't tiny as I like to be able to stab my needles into a pincushion easily without having to search for it. I have been using one like these for the last year and the size is perfect.

Great Day!!

Happy Birthday to my mother who is 93 today. We are celebrating tomorrow.

I had a great day at Some Good Market! Now I have to make a few more fibre lace scarves for the Craft Council Christmas Craft Fair. That's a good thing. Thanks to everyone who stopped by my table. It was great to see friends and to make new ones.

Local Craft Fairs

Tomorrow, I will be attending Some Good Market, 8 Military Road (Canonwood Hall, St. Thomas' Church), St. John's. Drop by if you live near by. I heard there will be about 40 vendors so you will have the chance to seek out those Christmas gifts that have to be mailed early. Did I mention that all my work is light weight and inexpensive to mail?

I will also have a booth at the Christmas Craft Fair sponsored by the Craft Council of Newfoundland Labrador. The fair dates: November 20 - 23, Arts and Culture Center, St. John's. Drop by to see my newest Shimmer Ornaments, Fibre Lace Scarves and Fibre Art Pendants.

Last but not least, the Anna Templeton Annual Tea and Sale takes place December 12, 13 & 14.  I will have a table at this event. Yah! I am hoping to have a new product ready for sale too. Guess my sewing machine will be working overtime!

To Market, To Market . . .

Foggy Rock Fibres

Yesterday, at Some Good Market, I swapped one of my Fibre Art Pendants for this gorgeous skein of hand painted wool & mohair yarn! Anne Lucas, Foggy Rock Fibres, always has such unique coloured yarns. I will be using some of this in my next felting project. Thanks Anne.

Some Good Market

I will be participating in Some Good Market next Saturday, April 5th. at Canon Wood Hall at the corner of Military Road and Kingsbridge Road. Hopefully the weather will cooperate and everyone will be out and about and eager to get some early Easter gift buying done. This will probably be my last market until September / October.

My Fibre Art Pendants are ready to go! At the last market I attended, I did some field testing on the pendants and could have sold all I had with me. For those in St. John's and area, please drop by to have a look and support local artists and crafts people.

Needle Felted Pendants

I did some market testing on my needle felted pendants at Some Good Market today. They were quite well received and I could have sold the ones I had with me. One lady saw them and said, 'OMG, these are gorgeous!' Needless to say, I was quite pleased. However. before I put them on the market, I want to have suitable packaging and labeling ready. A couple of stores also expressed an interest in carrying them.

I wore the one below on a long silver chain over a black top. It did look lovely and I received compliments for it! Finding a suitable source for necklaces is my next job.

Some Good Market

February 8 is the first Some Good Market in St. John's for 2014. The Telegram wrote a piece about the market back in 2012. This market has a large variety of vendors from high end arts and craft (for example: jewellery, silk scarves, knitted goods and yarn for knitting, wool roving, wall art, pet related items, quilting and sewing), to bakery items, home made jams and other food stuff. It's well worth a visit. Valentine's Day is less than a week away and you just might find a gift for that special someone!

Fibre Lace Scarves Going to Some Good Market!

I have made a few more scarves for Some Good Market tomorrow here in St. John's. This event has grown to be one of the places to visit for local art and craft. If you are in the area, drop by 8 Military Road. You can't miss it!

My scarves are reversible so there are two photos for each one. Last week I used my 50% coupon at Michael's and purchased the black stand for displaying them.
