March of Mugs

I dropped down to the Quidi Vidi Plantation this afternoon to see the March of Mugs. It was a fantastic display of mugs, cup & saucers, vases, and small dishes. This event is hosted by local potter, Alexis Templeton.  

The March of Mugs features the work of fourteen ceramicists from Canada and the Untied States:

Feast of Pottery

This afternoon, I visited a Feast of Pottery (see a list of participants below), at the Quidi Vidi Village Plantation. Alexis Templeton, a well known St. John's potter, has been curating this event the last several years. In fact, it looks like it will become a yearly event held on the Canadian Thanksgiving weekend. I was given permission to take lots of photos to show to you. I will probably have to do several posts to cover the exhibition.

One piece, by David Hayashida and Linda Yates, was of particular interest, as it had a quilt hanging on a clothesline. As many of my followers are quilters, I thought this would be a fitting first piece to display. Enjoy the rest of the show and check back later for more photos. Saidye Bronfman Nominee

Two craftspeople from Newfoundland and Labrador have been nominated for the Saidye Bronfman Award. This is Canada's foremost distinction for excellence in fine craft. Linda Yates and David Hayashida from King's Point Pottery, who specialize in salt / soda firing and high-fired functional stoneware, were nominated by the Craft Council of Newfoundland and Labrador. Icebergs In June - Alexis Templeton Studio

Alexis Templeton is a potter who lives and works in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador. I fell in love with her work years ago and as a result, own pieces of her work. Whenever I have company, some of her pottery makes an appearance.
Her studio's theme at the moment is Icebergs in June. As she writes on her card, "June is often when icebergs arrive on our shores - if they're going to come at all, of course. To celebrate a phenomena that never fails to take out breath away, I've invited local artists to help fill the studio with their interpretations of these majestic ice castles." The crystalline iceberg plates featured in the picture will be included too. These plates are fantastic! I will be adding one of these to my collection.
