Work in Progress

I'm trying to complete a few UFOs during the winter. This piece of Sashiko was started several years ago. I made a plastic template and drew it out on the fabric. The stitching was just completed! YAH! Now I have to finish it for my coffee table. Here's a sneak peek at the piece:

I have a variety of Japanese fabrics but mostly in fat quarter sizes but I found this blue piece with koi fish all over it that will work perfectly for the back.

Iceberg Shimmers

I now have three different Iceberg Shimmer designs completed. Actually, it's a team effort! My husband creates the images in Corel Draw and then they are converted into stitch (in another program) to be used in my embroidery machines. That's the quick explanation. It takes a bit more work than that to get from sketch to stitch.

The middle shimmer was blogged about earlier this month.  The other two shimmers were worked on in between house renovations.

I'm pleased with the results.

Modern Quilting

Are you into Modern Quilting? It sure has evolved big time in the quilting world! Personally, I like the minimalist look of many of the modern quilts. Fussy doesn't appeal to me, nor does many of the traditional quilting patterns.

Remembering the 1713 Treaty of Utrecht

A couple of weeks ago, I went to Devon House to see the exhibit, Remembering the 1713 Treaty of Utrecht, an embroidered history of the French in Atlantic Canada. This set of embroidery was stitched in Conche, Newfoundland, under the sponsorship of the French Shore Historical Society. Since 2006, the French Shore Historical Society has supported the idea of representing history in the tradition of the 11th c. Bayeux Tapestry in France.

This exhibit features 8 embroidered panels done in bold colours and a classic design that presents the events surrounding the 1713 Treaty of Utrecht. This particular event had a profound effect on the future of Canada.

I had permission to photograph this exhibit at Devon House and present it here on my blog.

The embroidery design of these panels was created by Cynthia Colosimo Robbins and embroidered by: Ruby Brenton, Anne Byrne, Lucy Byrne, Dorothy Loughery, Joan Simmonds, Daphne Symmonds and Doris Randell.

Iceberg Shimmers

My newest Shimmer is an iceberg. At the moment, I have one view stitched with a possible two more in the works. This one is based on a real iceberg.

 A few facts about Icebergs:

• Icebergs are large pieces of freshwater ice that have broken off a glacier or an ice shelf and floats freely in open water
• Iceberg facts are also found HERE
• Newfoundland is one of the best places in the world to view Icebergs 

1st. UFO for 2016

I finished my first UFO for 2016 today. This small hand embroidery was started just before Christmas. The pattern is from Redwork, Winter Twitterings by Pearl Louise Krush. Valdani thread was used for the tree and birds with silver metallic for the tree trim and snowflakes. The blue border is a royal blue batik but shows up much darker in the photo.

Thimbles

Thimbles! Well, if you are like me, a thimble on the finger just does not work as I will ignore it and use a non-thimbled finger. Go figure! I have tried on many occasions to use them. The only kind that works sometimes is the stick-on thimble pad.
