All About Modern

Modern Quilting - what exactly is it? The Stitchin' Post gives an answer to this question.
According to the "Modern Quilt Guild," modern quilts are primarily functional and inspired by modern design. Modern quilters work in different styles and define modern quilting in different ways, but several characteristics often appear which may help identify a modern quilt. These include, but are not limited to: the use of bold colors and prints, high contrast and graphic areas of solid color, improvisational piecing, minimalism, expansive negative space, and alternate grid work. "Modern traditionalism" or the updating of classic quilt designs is also often seen in modern quilting."

Me, I like the ones with lots of white or black space and colour. The colour would not be any particular quilt block - more random.  I also like the work of Jean Wells. Her books, Inspired Art Quilting and Intuitive Color & Design are both  in my library collection.

Modern Quilting

Are you into Modern Quilting? It sure has evolved big time in the quilting world! Personally, I like the minimalist look of many of the modern quilts. Fussy doesn't appeal to me, nor does many of the traditional quilting patterns.

KISS - Keep It Simple & Stunning is how I feel about it.

My sister just sent me the link to QuiltCon 2016 with the winning quilts displayed. Also have a look at their tutorial page.

Enjoy!

The Needle & Thread Network

I've linked up with The Needle & Thread Network this week. It's a weekly blog hop to check out what Canadian quilters are doing.

For those of you who are interested in making Modern Quilts, I found a link, Blog Her, with lots of free patterns for Modern Quilts. Don't forget to check out the other free tutorials and patterns on this same site.
Enjoy!!
