My Portable Embroidery Organizer

Not that I needed another 'organizer' for my stuff! BUT . . .

I saw a free pattern on Sew Can She web site last month and decided to give it a try. The cut-out handles really sold me on this project! A bonus - the pleated pockets are large enough for my phone. AND the interior with its 6 interior pockets, is the perfect size for fat quarters. It's also easy to close with the magnetic snaps.

I choose some Japanese fabrics from my stash. These had been gifted to me many years ago by an elderly lady, whom I visited frequently. In fact, I inherited most of her sewing and quilting stash when she passed away. This sewing organizer will always remind me of Nina.

As I'm not one to follow all the rules (good or bad????)! I did change the type of stabilizer from a medium weight fusible interfacing to some Peltex (fusible one side) that I had on hand. I did not use the flex foam stabilizer (bought some to try but didn't). In any case, the sides were a bit thick. I did manage to sew the binding on by machine on the straight parts but hand sewing, using the wonder clips, finished the organizer.

I decided to do some free-motion embellishment on the fabrics. For the pockets I used Totally Stable and a variegated thread by Superior Threads. I think it added to the project.

I also used these neat wonder quilter's clips to hold the binding in place while it was stitched on.

I like the cut-out handles and they are so easy to do.

Magnetic closure
Lots of pockets: 6 inside and 6 outside.

I'm pleased with the result and not sorry that I used the heavier stabilizer.

Enjoy!!

Tuesday!

Saturday, I posted about the Caddy from Sew Can She. Well, the free pattern is posted on the web site HERE. I just printed out the pattern to file away for future use. I also saved it to my computer. Do you do that? I think I have quite a collection of free patterns filed away but few are made yet!!

It is also Linky Tuesday over at Free Motion By The River (I didn't forget this time).

This is another foggy day here in St. John's. Enjoy a bit of colour from my last years side garden.

Show Off Saturday From Sew Can She!

It is very difficult to be organized all the time! These days, my organizing skills are hit or miss. I do have plastic see-through shoe boxes from Home Depot for my hand embroidery threads. They cost 99 cents last year. I also have those clear scrapbook cases from Michael's stacked to hold projects and various supplies that I use in my studio. Those I only purchase with a 50% off coupon or when they sometimes go on sale dirt cheap ($3.99).

So needless to say, when I see projects that might work in a sewing room / studio, it catches my attention. One such case was a few minutes ago on Show Off Saturday, sponsored by Sew Can She. The maker of this little project is going to be posting a tutorial soon.

Also check out the Free Tutorial Archives at the top of the page on Sew Can Sew!

Here's my past post on Getting Organized.

Enjoy the project!

A Bit of This & That

Today is sunny but brrrrrrr at -10 C! Yesterday it was +10 C. So much for weather in Newfoundland. It can change in the 'wink of an eye' or is it 'blink of an eye"? Whatever! I could write a book on all the changes I make to some of the odd sayings. Changes I don't even realize I've made until someone points it out or it suddenly comes to me that I did it again!

Anyway . . . a good friend was in Scotland this summer and visited The Great Tapestry of Scotland. To quote her "It took my breath away"! The tapestry consists of 160 panels (not connected) and is 143 metres long when put side by side. It's worth a visit to the link above. Be prepared to sit awhile, so get a cup of something to keep you company.

Next, Mary Corbet kindly offered a lovely Christmas Tree pattern to embroider. I did print it out. However, it will be added to my future 'to do list'. Also check out Mary's free embroidery patterns.

The Inspired Wren has a tutorial on making felted Christmas ornaments. It is quite nice and easy to make in felt or paper. Lots of other great tutorials on this site too.

Want to make Christmas Crackers? Go HERE. They can be made in either fabric or paper.

Sew Can She has lots of nice things to make. I like the shark pencil case. Why? My little granddaughter just got a pair of shark slippers from Costco (Chicago) and was delighted to show them to me via Skype!

The Christmas Ornaments from The Red Brolly are just lovely. More 'stuff' to add to my 'to do list'!

I can now close the various links in my browser and search for more ideas to make.

Enjoy!
