My sister, Joan has spent the year quilting! She and her husband dropped by the campground for a couple of nights, on their way to Newfoundland from Tennessee. I received a late birthday gift - a fruit cake (family tradition) and a Piknik Batik quilt! Since I go to the beach with my granddaughter, she figured I needed a picnic quilt. She said on the label that she used up all her batiks. We have a running joke about batik fabrics.
The backing fabric is dark and comes to the front to bind the piece.
Thanks, Joan! It's perfect.

The Work Goes On . . .
Here's my latest Felted Ornaments. I've also got another shape in progress. What do you think of these little pullover sweaters? I've made some of the sweaters from abstract pieces of felted bases.

Some Finishes!
I've been finishing up a few things lately. It's really too hot to spend long periods of time outside so I'm taking advantage of the RV air conditioning. Here's my latest batch of Fibre Art Pendants.

Gale's Rainbow
Earlier this summer, Gale, my 5 year old granddaughter, wanted to stitch her own rainbow. She told me it was her 'own design and wasn't curved like a real one'. If you look closely, you will see the faint curve drawn with pencil on the fabric. She didn't like that 'design'.
Her colour selection was determined by her before she began. The 'Rainbow' was finished this week.
I mentioned that a signature would be nice so I went to get a pen. However, that wasn't in the cards as she wanted a stitched name. 'You can do it, Grandma, and I'll watch'. She then wrote her name on paper, selected the colours and matched them up so that I would know which threads to use. Gale sat and watched as each stitch was made.
Plans are to get her first finished piece of stitching framed.
I just noticed that the colours of her name, correspond to the last four colours used in her rainbow!

Felting
I've had some productive time this week. However, the internet has been
slow to nonexistent, especially when I want to do a post.
Both machines (embellisher and regular sewing machine) were in use yesterday. I used some of the roving purchased in Wolfville at Gaspereau Valley Fibres. Don't you just love the vibrant colours. I might have to go back for some more of the first colourway.

Purchases from Wolfville
Here are a few more purchases, this time from Wolfville.
I couldn't pass up these fibres! These will certainly pop in my next felting project. (It's easy to see that I have a good internet connection today here in Brooklyn, near Windsor.)

Late Birthday Surprise!
My friend, Verna, is visiting Nova Scotia. We managed to connect yesterday in Mahone Bay where we had lunch at Oh My Cod. Don't you just love the play on words! Verna makes beautiful Temari Balls. If you have been following my blog, you have seen lots of her work.
Well, she delivered a late birthday present to me. Can you guess what I received (grin)? I have been raving over the ones she has been making recently so I guess she figured I'd really like to have one - she was right. Thank you bunches, Verna! I love it. The black background has glittery threads with a variegated thread for the design.

More Projects to Check!
July certainly flew by! I've been trying to get some work done but it has been difficult. I have been working outside in our 'dining tent'. It has a solid top and mesh sides. Perfect for keeping sun off and the mesh lets in a breeze (when there is one).
I found a few more interesting projects to check. If you have little ones off to school in September, have a look at the cute apple pouches below.
