Black Gold Tapestry

The Black Gold Tapestry is a stunning hand-embroidered illustrative tapestry that tells the story of how oil has impacted human civilizations around the world, from the beginning of time to present day (Calgary Petroleum Club). Calgary artist Sandra Sawatzky has been working on this 220 feet of stitched linen for almost a decade. It will be unveiled at Calgary's Glenbow Museum on October 7, 2017.
To get a glimpse of this tapestry, view a short video HERE.
The Black Gold Tapestry Blog, started in 2009, documents the making and the ideas and the behind the scenes of the project.
Enjoy!

Our Prairie in Fibre

Our Prairie in Fibre is an collection of fibre art created by women from across Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. This wonderful collection was curated by Monika Kinner-Whalen. Please take a few minutes to tour this exhibit. Also have a look at Monika's wonderful art pieces.

I've been following Monika's blog for several years and knew this exhibit was coming. I'm glad she let us know the link. Just wish I could see it in person. Thanks Monika.

Now check out some links to quilters and fibre artists from Western Canada (not complete by any stretch of the imagination):

Guess What!!

Even though last week was an extremely busy one for me, I did manage to make a quick visit to the various blogs featured in Blogathon Canada. I did enter a few of the great giveaways too and guess what? I won a lovely teacup pincushion from Inch by Inch Quilting Blog. It was fashioned by Joanne of Etcetera. The pincushion is made from a vintage (children's) teacup.

If you haven't already checked out the terrific Canadian Bloggers from last week, it is a great way to meet new quilters and see what they are doing. It is also interesting to see the various links, tutorials and projects quilters list on their blogs.

Thanks again, Edith from Calgary, Alberta. (I borrowed your teacup photo to show off what I won).

A Nice Surprise

I don't usually win things but I wrote a comment on Margaret Blank's web site a couple days ago. I was just notified that I won # 76 of Inspirations 2012. Margaret lives in Alberta, Canada. She is celebrating ten years of blogging and getting very close to her 1000 post. Please drop by her blog and have a look around.

Thanks again, Margaret, for selecting my name!
